Captain John Pergerson is a native of Roxboro, North Carolina. He graduated in 2004 from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was commissioned in April 2005 after completing Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. He also holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In July 2025, Capt. Pergerson assumed his current role as operations officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast.
From May 2023 to June 2025, Capt. Pergerson served as commanding officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Five, homeported in Port Hueneme, California. His previous expeditionary tours include a junior officer assignment at Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Forty, also in Port Hueneme, where he served as Charlie Company commander, exercise officer, and officer in charge/embassy liaison officer. During that time, he completed two deployments supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Philippines. In 2015, he returned to the Seabees with NMCB Three as training and readiness officer (S7), making two deployments to the Pacific.
His prior facilities and project management assignments include assistant resident officer in charge of construction at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada; dual-hatted officer in charge and public works officer at Naval Base Ventura County Outlying Landing Field San Nicolas Island, California; assistant public works officer at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia; and public works officer (N4) at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads in Norfolk, Virginia.
Capt. Pergerson’s staff tours include facilities officer and engineer operations officer for U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain; executive assistant to the commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Atlantic in Norfolk; and military construction program analyst on the staff of the deputy chief of naval operations for installations and logistics (OPNAV N4) at the Pentagon.
He is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, qualified JPME-1, a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps, and a registered professional engineer in Texas. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various other service, unit, and campaign awards.
