CAPT Kent R. Simodynes

CAPT Kent R. Simodynes is a native of Edmond, Oklahoma. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy, earning Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Naval Architecture in May 2002. In 2008, he earned a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management at the University of Maryland. Simodynes is a licensed Civil Engineer, registered in the state of Maryland, and is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.

After completion of Civil Engineering Corps Officer School in December 2002, he reported to Naval Support Activity Bahrain where he served as the Assistant Public Works Officer until April 2005. Simodynes then Volunteered for an Individual Augmentee tour in April 2005, where he served as Base Engineer in Habbaniyah, Iraq for seven months.

Following his tour in Iraq, he reported to Public Works Annapolis where he served as the Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction from December 2005 to August 2007. In September 2008 to 2010, he served as a Company Commander at Amphibious Construction Battalion TWO. His next assignment was with First Naval Construction Division from August 2010 to July 2012. During this time, he served as the Liaison Officer to U.S. Fleet Forces Command and the Operations Department's Exercise Officer. Simodynes reported to Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington in July 2012 and served as the Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Director for Public Works Department Bethesda until 2014. In June 2014, he reported to the staff of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Expeditionary Warfare Division, where he served as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director of Expeditionary Warfare. During this time, he also served as the Requirements Officer for the Naval Beach Groups, Naval Support Element, and Maritime Prepositioning Force. His next assignment was the Civil Engineer Corps Officer Community Manager, Bureau of Naval Personnel from June 2016 to July 2018. In July 2018, Simodynes served as NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic’s Assistant Operations Officer for North Area of Operations until May 2020, and then served as the Public Works Officer for Naval Station Norfolk until July 2022.

He assumed duties as Executive Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic on July 22, 2022.

Simodynes is a qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer. His decorations and awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with five gold stars, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Expert Rifleman Medal, and Navy Expert Pistol Medal.
