CAPT Daniel Schmitt is a native of Henderson, Kentucky. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from University of Kentucky in 2002 and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in October 2002. He holds a Master of Civil Engineering from University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Executive Fellows program.
CAPT Schmitt’s operational tours include assignments as Assistant Operations Officer, Charlie Company Commander and Detail Romania Officer in Charge, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) THREE where he deployed to Iraq and Romania; Operations Officer, NMCB FOUR where he completed two deployments to Okinawa, Japan; and Commanding Officer of NMCB ONE where he deployed to Rota, Spain as Commander Task Group 68.2.
His shore assignments include Assistant Public Works Officer and 1st Lieutenant Division Officer, Naval Base San Diego; Construction Manager, Resident Office in Charge of Construction Travis Air Force Base; Aide to the Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC); Public Works Officer, PWD Central at Naval Station Great Lakes; Director Seabee Readiness Division, Civil Engineer Corps Officer School; Deputy Director for Legislation and Installations Legislative Liaison, Navy Office of Legislative Affairs; Lead Programming Analyst for Installations and NECC Readiness, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations Programming Division (OPNAV N80); and Executive Officer of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Washington.
CAPT Schmitt currently serves as Commanding Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Washington and Regional Engineer, Naval District Washington.
CAPT Schmitt is a Professional Engineer in the State of Kentucky, member of the Acquisition Professional Community, a qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and Fleet Marine Force Officer. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (6 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and other personal, service, unit, and campaign awards.
