Public Works Department Bethesda is located on the campus of the Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB). NSAB is home to more than 40 tenant commands. Major tenant commands include Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), the Navy Medicine Professional Development Center, the Uniformed Services University (USU), the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI), Armed Forces Blood Bank, Naval Dosimetry Center, Warrior Transition Brigade, plus many other smaller tenants.

The Public Works Duty Officer (PWDO) is on call 24/7 and serves as PWD Bethesda's representative and primary point of contact during emergencies.
